You cannot double down more than once per hand and it is usually appropriate to double down when you have a ten and the dealer is sitting on not a very good first card.
Split - Divide the two cards dealt into two different hands. - For the adventurous double downing can be profitable but also can get you into trouble. If you receive two cards of the same value you can elect to split the hand. Your initial bet is then placed on both hands and you can continue from there. Each casino has varying rules regarding your after split options.
Insurance - If the dealers card on view is an ace you can get insurance on the face down card being a 10. This usually pays 2 to 1 and you have to put up half your original bet to take out the insurance, it is considered that this is a bad bet as the maths suggest you will not win using this strategy.
